The Roentgenological Study for the Developmental and the Morphological Survey of the Paranasal Sinuses in Korean Cases

Abstract
For 223 =Korean cases, 89 male and 134 female cases from birth to 16 years of age, of the Orphanage and the Children¢¥s Hospital in Seoul, the developmental and morphological studies on the roentgenographic pictures of the frontal and maxillary sinuses has been carried. And also, statistically considered the developmental direction of the sinuses with the lapse of age, and finally the -developmental relief-map of the maxillary sinus was made.
Table 2indicates the rate of growth of the frontal sinus from birth to age 16. It is of interest to note that the frontal sinus generally appear at age 5-6, and reaches relatively developed measurements at age 1-14.
Figure 1 and 2, developmental relief-map of the maxillary sinus, shows conspicuous expansion from birth to 6, especially to 4 years of age. In this period, lateral margin of the sinus goes over the vertical middle line of the orbita, and fully expanded in width laterally before age 15. At age 7-8, inferior border of the maxillary sinus reaches parallel line with the base of the proper nasal cavity.
The¢¥ morphological comparison of the maxillary sinuses between Korean, Japanese and American cases shows-as Table 3 as resemble but different shapes. Finally, some discussion were added to the develop-mental maps of Nagoshi (Fig. 3) and Torrigiani -(Fig. 4) with authors one.
